Between History and Legends
Bomarzo, a small town in the north of Lazio, casts a spell over visitors with its unique atmosphere. Even though I wasn’t able to visit the famous ‘Parco dei Mostri’ this time, the historic centre of the small town still fascinated me. Nestled in rolling hills and surrounded by dense vegetation, the medieval silhouette of Bomarzo rises majestically above the valley.

The First Impression – Bomarzo from the Air
As soon as the drone approaches, it becomes clear that this city is an enchanted work of art. Perched on a rocky ridge, the old town centre is almost like a fortress against time. Narrow alleyways, historic houses made of tufa stone and an unmistakable view of the gentle Lazio landscape characterise the cityscape. The Palazzo Orsini, which dominates the city skyline, is particularly imposing.
Palazzo Orsini – Centre of Power of a Noble Family
Bomarzo’s landmark is the imposing Palazzo Orsini, which was built in the 16th century. Originally built as a noble residence for the Orsini family, it still epitomises the importance of the town in the Renaissance period. Its harmonious integration into the landscape and the many architectural details that reveal themselves on closer inspection are particularly fascinating.

Walk Through the Old Town
A walk through Bomarzo feels like travelling back in time. Cobblestone paths lead past old houses, hidden squares and steep steps. The quiet atmosphere and the lack of tourist development make for an authentic experience. If you look closely, you will discover numerous little gems such as pictures of saints embedded in the walls or artistic iron grilles.
Drone Photography – Bomarzo From Its Most Beautiful Side
The aerial shots show Bomarzo in all its grandeur. The contrast between the massive buildings and the soft, almost picturesque landscape around them is particularly impressive. Early in the morning or in the late afternoon hours, the light bathes the city in warm golden tones – perfect for atmospheric shots.

Conclusion: Bomarzo – a Place for Explorers
Even without visiting the Parco dei Mostri, Bomarzo remains a real highlight on my trip through Lazio. The historical substance, the atmospheric old town centre and the imposing Palazzo Orsini make the small town an insider tip for anyone who wants to experience Italy off the beaten track.
